French III is an intermediate classes designed to expand upon the language skills and knowledge students learned previously. The objective is to continue to develop students' conversational skills to become intermediate communicators. The study of people, history, geography, culture, and customs of francophone (French-speaking) countries will be integrated throughout the course.
As students acquire language, they become more proficient. They are able to accomplish more and more tasks, communication about more topics and make themselvees better understood. At the end of French II, students typically achieve an intermediate-low to intermediate-mid level on the ACTFL proficiency scale.
Intermediate Low (IL): Students at this level can communicate with more detail and fluency. They can handle a range of tasks and social situations related to personal and everyday topics. They can provide information about themselves, their immediate environment, and their daily activities. While their language usage might still be somewhat formulaic, they are able to handle more spontaneous interactions.
Intermediate Mid (IM): AT this level, students can handle a wider range of topics and tasks. They can participate in discussions about both familiar and unfamiliar subjects, provide explanations, and narrate in different tenses. Their language usage becomes more flexible and nuanced, allowing them to express themselves with greater precision.
