Comprehensive School Counseling Program

Crystal M. Armijo, MA, NCC, LMHC, Professional School Counselor

I believe that all students have the potential to be successful in school and in life. I strive to ensure our students are well-prepared to become productive citizens with character by introducing them to the knowledge, attitudes, and skills that will help them practice resilience and overcome all obstacles. I am proud to assist students in improving their academic achievement, fostering their positive personal and social development, and exploring their future career opportunities. My ultimate goal is to empower our students so that they believe in themselves, know how to attain their goals, and possess the abilities and emotional support necessary to accomplish their individual pursuits.

I cannot achieve my goal without the collaboration and support of administration, teachers, staff members, parents/guardians, and community members, and I believe in working closely with all educational stakeholders to guarantee the safety, wellbeing, and achievement of every student. I am passionate about the betterment of the students, and I cannot wait to witness their growth.

Educational Background

To become a professional school counselor, I attended the University of New Mexico (UNM), where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my bachelor’s degree in Psychology--and a minor in Criminology--in December 2008. I entered UNM’s Counselor Education Program, accredited by the prestigious Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), in 2009, and I earned my master’s degree in Counselor Education, with a dual concentration in Community Agency Counseling and School Counseling, in May 2012. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) through the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board. I was hired as the school counselor at Barcelona Elementary in July 2012, and I am proud that I spent my first year as a professional at Barcelona.
