AHS Drama Productions

By: Andrew Mackey

Ever wondered how AHS Drama Program does the most plays than any other high school? Ralph Adkins is the mentor of many actors, artists, and theatre production kids. He has been doing Theatre since 1964, which is about 55 years. “The Thespian Troupe celebrated their 50th anniversary only about five or six years ago.” Adkins says. It is the oldest Thespian Troupe in Albuquerque! Adkins hopes to see better attendance at each production this season, so all you Bulldogs head over to the next play “The Tell-Tale Farce” which is a dark comedy featuring Edgar Allan Poe or so it seems? Find out more in late September!

The first production “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime” was a success in which Adkins quotes “I loved it. It does a very good job at recognizing the different aspects of autism”. The actors were amazing and represented their characters very well! Those of you that missed out don’t worry there is plenty of more productions in the future.

There is a total of nine plays this year and the last one is a musical. We will be showing “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Seascape”, “A Christmas Carol”, “The Girl in The Mirror”, “Clown Bar”, “Three Amigos”, and the musical “Sweeney Todd”. Usually it costs about one thousand to two thousand dollars to make a play come together, maybe more for props, costumes, scenery, etc., but musicals are much more costly starting around ten thousand to twenty thousand dollars! Shout-out to all the Drama kids who sold chocolate! The funds from fundraising definitely benefits the Drama Program! Lastly selling tickets and audience attendance also benefits Drama, Theater Production, and Stagecraft. Therefore, students, parents, and children make sure to free your calendar on the nights of September 25th-28th to see “The Tell-Tale Farce”!
