At Atrisco Heritage Academy, students who receive special education services as outlined by an Individualized Education Plan are assigned to a special education teacher’s caseload. This teacher becomes the student’s sponsor teacher for the school year and works closely with the Special Education Head Teachers and Special Education Assistant Principal to schedule the student’s annual IEP and/or re-evaluation, as well as to collect the necessary data to determine how to best support the student academically and ready the student for post-secondary transition to college, career, or community.
Using the IEP Team process, Albuquerque Public Schools will ensure that:
Placement decisions are made by the IEP team in conformity with the least restrictive environment provisions of the IDEA;
The student's placement is determined at least annually;
Placement is based on the child’s IEP; and
A student with a disability is not removed from education in age-appropriate regular classrooms solely because of needed modifications in the general curriculum.
