I will be out of the classroom Thursday, May 23 in the morning for my daughter's preschool graduation. I will be back in the classroom after lunch. I will have limited access to email throughout the morning.
There is no school Friday, May 24 and Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day.

May 13-17
Reading
We will be reading selections of Aesop's Fables.
We will be studying the characteristics of the fable genre.
We will be learning about moral, and applying the lessons learned in these stories to our own lives.
We are continuing to review topics that frequently appear on the NWEA test. It is so important that students are in class and on time each day as we get ready for this very important end of year assessment.
As we are beginning the end of year testing cycle, we are not going to be covering any new phonics concepts for the remainder of the year. There will be no more spelling tests.
Math
We are continuing our NWEA math preparations. We have covered fractions and measurements. This we will be covering graphing and beginning our geometry study.
There will be no assessments on these topics.

Reading
We will be learning about the various types of non-fiction text features by reading many different non-fiction texts throughout the week.
We are learning how these different text features add to the meaning of a topic.
We are continuing to review topics that frequently appear on the NWEA test. It is so important that students are in class and on time each day as we get ready for this very important end of year assessment.
We will be starting our unit on prefixes. Prefixes are parts of words that are added to the beginning of words to change the meaning of the word. We will be focusing this week on the suffixes un-, pre-, and re-
un-: not--> unkind (not kind)
Pre-: before--> preheat (heat before)
re-: again--> reread (read again)
Our spelling test will be May 10. Please note that the spelling test will look different because we are using a new curriculum!
Math
We will then be moving on to cover many different topics like: fractions, graphing, geometry, measurement, and telling time.
There will be no assessments on these topics.
