Unit Map

This unit map covers the American Civil War. The main idea of this unit is how the Civil War divided our country on both the national and local level. On day three of this unit, the lesson focuses on the Shelton Laurel Massacre, which is one of the best examples of a small community being divided over the isses brought up by the Civil War. Other lessons in this unit focus on slavery, the war itself, and reconstruction. This unit relies heavily on students analyzing primary sources and putting themselves in the shoes of historical groups and figures.
