Come dressed to play.
The voice can't exist without the body and movement is an essential part of this class.
Students are required to attend all class meetings.
● You get three (3) absences for the WHOLE semester. Period. I do not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences.
● On the 4th absence your FINAL GRADE will be reduced 1/3 of a letter grade. Each subsequent absence will result in another 1/3 of a letter grade reduction.
● If you miss eight (8) classes- you will automatically receive an “F” for the course. ☹
To prepare you for industry standards, I am asking that we abide by the following:
● MISSING A PERFORMANCE:
● If you are late or absent on a performance day (unless there it is a University Sponsored Event and you provide documentation) you will receive a “0” for the assignment.
● You will not be allowed to make up the assignment.
• If your partner is on time and present they will not be penalized for your absence and will be allowed to make up their grade.
● If you have a University Sponsored Event: (field trip, competition, performance, etc.) Please let me know a.s.a.p. so that I can work with you to make up any missed assignments.
· You must turn in an official description sheet, with contact information at least, 1 week before the event.
· Failure to provide documentation does not oblige me to honor the absence.
· You are allowed a minimum of two absences per year for religious observances.
· Notice must be given by the student to the instructor before the absence occurs and no later than three weeks after the start of the semester in which the absence(s) will occur. Arrangements will be made to make up work missed by these religious observances, without penalty to the student. For the purposes of this policy, ASU defines the term “religious observance” to include religious holidays, holy days, or similar observances associated with a student’s faith that require absence from class.
I look forward to learning with and from you and sharing the joy of Voice/Presence/Acting with you this semester.
Theatre is a collaborative art. Active listening and supportiveness is essential.
The energy WE bring in the room is the experience. Your PRESENCE matters.
You matter.
Let's make this environment a fun one!
We will create this as a community
It is my intent that students from all diverse backgrounds and perspectives be well-served by this course, that students' learning needs be addressed both in and out of class, and that the diversity that the students bring to this class be viewed as a resource, strength and benefit. Please let me know ways to improve the effectiveness of the course for you personally, or for other students or student groups. With respect to physical needs and accommodations: All bodies, abilities, and needs are welcome. All we ask is that you work towards your personal edges of growth.
Cell phones are strictly prohibited in the classroom unless approved by the instructor. Even working from a text on your phone uses a different part of your brain. Please bring paper copies of your text with you to class to maximize your training and skill-building as an actor.
Laptops may be used with discretion and consent of the instructor.
To prepare you for industry standards, all work must be submitted on time.
