The goal of the Strength and Conditioning Concentration is to prepare competent entry-level professionals. The attainment of the overall goal is determined by the degree to which the following individual program goals are met:
Program Goal 1: Graduates of the program will obtain knowledge and comprehension in the area of kinesiology/exercise science, as it relates to strength and conditioning. Graduates will demonstrate knowledge and comprehension broadly and in the specific areas of exercise technique, assessment and prescription, program design, and legal/professional issues and management.
Program Goal 2: Graduates of the program will be able to apply their kinesiology-related knowledge in a professional setting. Graduates will have demonstrated, in a professional internship setting, the ability to apply their kinesiology-related knowledge and skills in the areas of exercise technique, assessment and prescription, and program design.
Program Goal 3: Program graduates will be able to model professionalism, initiative, dependability, and interpersonal skills.
Strength and Conditioning Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcome 1: Content Knowledge
a. Students will be able to explain the physiological and biomechanical responses to exercise and how they adapt to training.
b. Students will critique and compare literature pertaining to a topic within strength and conditioning.
Learning Outcome 2: Application
a. Students will organize, analyze, and interpret results from data in strength and conditioning settings.
b. Students will be able to develop safe and effective training programs to translate assessment results into appropriate exercise prescriptions and improve fitness and athletic performance.
c. Students will be able to apply psychological and nutritional principles to make recommendations for integration into the overall training program.
Learning Outcome 3: Organization and Administration
a. Students will be able to describe responsibilities, limitations, and legal implications for the strength/fitness professional and to apply emergency procedures for facility management.
