August 22, 2022 - Grace Kropelin began her Master's thesis.

August 1, 2022 - The lab was awarded an NSF Building Research Capacity in Biology Grant to study how cyclopeptide tolerance impacts the life history of Drosophila tripunctata (NSF - DBI: 2217912)

May 23, 2022 - Haley Martin, Jacob Burgess, and Jacob Huemmer  (undergraduate biology majors) joined the lab.

March 25, 2022 - Grace Kropelin presented her work on feeding behavior preference in D. guttifera at the SouthEastern Population Ecology and Evolutionary Genetics (SEPEEG) meeting in Eatonton, GA.

March 15, 2022 - Lukasz Ciesla (UA) and I have officially patented our protocol for the extraction of cyclopeptide toxins and other secondary metabolites from Amanita mushrooms (US 11, 274, 120).

January 17, 2022 - Bronwyn Boyd (MS student) joined the lab.

January 3, 2022 - Seamus Aparicio, Grace Kropelin, and Jazlyn Pointer all presented their work at the Annual Meeting of the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) in Phoenix, AZ.

November 16, 2021 -  I presented my research findings at part of the Genomics Education Partnership (GEP) Seminar Series.

September 13, 2021 - Seamus Aparicio presented his findings regarding the gut microbiome and toxin tolerance at the annual Research & Creative Activity at Appalachian State (RECAPP) meeting.

August 16, 2021 - Stephanie Rudisill began her Master's thesis and Sierra Doughtery joined the lab.

July 1, 2021 - Rahman Tashakkori (Computer Sciences - AppState), Mitch Perry (CS), Abdelbaset Hamza (CS), Jennifer Weller (UNC-C) and I were awarded a UNC Research Opportunities Initiative grant to study honey bees in the high country. This is the first time Appalachian State was the lead institute on one of these awards!

July 27, 2020 -  I presented my research findings at part of the Canadian Ento-Eco-Evo Virtual Seminar Series.

May 19, 2020 - Excited to be featured in the Society for the Study of Evolution's New Faculty Profiles. I had the opportunity to discuss my research, mentoring, teaching, and other topics.

March 24, 2020 - Our paper presenting a new method for extracting cyclopeptide toxins from mushrooms is now available in Ecology and Evolution. Thanks to my co-authors at the University of Alabama for all of your hard work

January 13, 2020 - Divine Bingolo, Kerri Durkan, Grace Kropelin, and Stephanie Rudisill (undergraduate biology majors) joined the lab and are working on independent research projects.

January 3-7, 2020 - Presented the results of Lauren Haynes' work on the impact of a natural toxin mix on Drosophila species that are susceptible to cyclopeptide toxins at SICB in Austin, TX.

December 4-6, 2019 - Attended the Reintegrating Biology Jumpstart in Atlanta.  Very exciting to work with a broad range of biologists to determine big questions we need to answer in biology.

October 25, 2019 - I presented Lauren Haynes' work examining the impact of a natural mix of toxins on mushroom-feeding Drosophila and their close relatives at RECAAP: Research and Creative Activity at Appalachian.

October 21, 2019 - I had the opportunity to present the findings of my research at the University of New Orleans Department of Biological Sciences weekly seminar.

October 4, 2019 - I presented the results of our differential gene expression analysis of Drosophila guttifera and D. recens larvae fed diets with and without cyclopeptide toxins at the 45th Annual SouthEastern Population Ecology and Evolutionary Genetics (SEPEEG) meeting in Clemson, SC.
