A Research Assistant (RA) in our lab would be expected to complete at least 1 or 2 hours a week of running participants through our Mindfulness study (we're looking at the effects of using a mindfulness mobile application on anxiety sensitivity and ADHD symptoms among SONA college student participants). Data collection involves consenting the participants, helping them to complete surveys, and looking at the mobile application with them. We also occasionally need help completing literature reviews related to various research topics we're looking at or helping our lab members enter, clean, or code data from various projects. Our RAs attend our weekly lab meeting held Fridays 9am-10am in Smith-Wright (that would be expected for someone doing PSY4001 and preference is given to those who can attend lab meeting). Sometimes we have students present on an article of interest to the lab (just summarizing the article and leading a discussion about it). Lab meeting is also a place we discuss research study ideas, help grad students and ugrad thesis students flush out their research ideas (like looking over their surveys or brainstorming ideas for things to add to their study or how to interpret their findings, etc) in addition to letting them practice presentations (e.g., for conferences or talks). We also use lab meeting time for professional development chats for undergrads (e.g., answering questions about psych careers or grad school, etc).
Note: We do have a preference for RA applicants who can commit to the lab for at least 2 semesters. For those who would like to enroll in PSY4001, we typically are not able to offer more than 2 credit hours per semester.Â
