Fifth Year PsyD Student
Kelly joined the REACT lab in the Fall of 2020, after receiving her Master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from UNC Chapel Hill in the Spring of 2020. Kelly’s current research interests include integrated care and rural mental health services. Kelly has assisted with research regarding behavioral health consulting at Student Health Services at ASU. Kelly’s current research focuses on understanding demographic and psychological variables associated with intent to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
Fourth Year PsyD Student
Breanna graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in May 2022. She started the PsyD program during the Fall 2022 semester, with the ultimate goal of practicing as a clinical psychologist in a rural community by disseminating evidence-based interventions and working to improve access to care. Her research interests include suicidality, stigma, and the delivery and impact of evidence-based interventions to underserved/underrepresented populations. She is currently working on her thesis, which is evaluating the impact of a Mental Health First Aid training program on college students' self-stigma and help-seeking attitudes, whilst considering how personal suicide history might interact with intervention outcomes.
Third Year PsyD Student
Shelby graduated from Davidson College with a B.A. in Sociology and Gender & Sexuality Studies in 2020. As an undergraduate, she conducted social science research exploring power, gender, sexual violence, and social movements. Following graduation, she completed a public policy fellowship with Lead for North Carolina before transitioning into the mental health field, inspired by her volunteer work at a rural crisis center. She went on to receive her M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College’s Lynch School of Education in 2023, completing her clinical training at the Renfrew Center of Boston. Her research interests focus on eating disorders, weight stigma, and disparities in treatment interventions, with her master’s thesis examining how these issues intersect with rurality and gender.
Second Year PsyD Student
Eric graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill in 2019 before working in the education sector between 2020 and 2024. During his time in education, Eric worked as an academic advisor gaining skills in rapport building and goal setting with adolescent and adult populations. He has worked on post-undergraduate projects such as publications in forensic psychology and as a crisis counselor working with individuals on suicide prevention. Currently, Eric is studying under Dr. Lisa Curtin, Ph.D. in the App State Psy.D. program and researching substance use harm reduction in the form of community vending machines. Eric is also practicing as a graduate student clinician at the App State Psychology Clinic and co-leading the clinic’s DBT Skills Training Group.
