Lesson Plans

1850s2day-Lesser

This lesson was a stations activity on the causes of the Civil War, which includes various secondary sources as well as a written summative activity. This main activity was done in groups, and requires the instructor to engage often with the students.

Market+Manifest-Lesser

This lesson was on the Market Revolution and Manifest Destiny, that was designed to be a lecture alternative lesson. Students used a variety of primary and secondary sources to both map important areas on a U.S. map, and to answer questions on the topic. The intention was for students to see how the country expanded physically by seeing new landmarks pop up in the west.

ProgressivePt.1LessPlan

This lesson was on Progressivism in the U.S. and had students begin a three-day project called Biography in a Bag. I learned about this activity from my clinical educator, and I adapted it to better fit the circumstances of my current class. This activity assigns each student either a person or some concept from the Progressive Era. A few examples are Carrie Nation, Ida Tarbell, and the Pure Food and Drug Act.

ImperialismPt.2LessPlan

This lesson is on Imperialism, and has the students study political cartoons from the time period to decide whether the goals of American Imperialism were achieved or not. Students work in groups to analyze cartoons, but each students must answer a series of questions about each source/cartoon.
