Our Why

Trauma studies in education has grown considerably across disciplines, educational settings, and professional roles, yet opportunities for scholars and practitioners to learn with and from one another remain limited. The TIES Summit creates a dedicated space for connecting research, practice, and institutional contexts. Through intentionally small, discussion-centered sessions, participants are invited not simply to present what they know, but to examine what that knowledge means for educational practice, policy, leadership, and systems.

Our History

The TIES Summit was established in 2026 in recognition of the fifth anniversary of the Journal of Trauma Studies in Education. Since its founding, JTSE has sought to advance interdisciplinary scholarship examining trauma and its implications across educational contexts. The Summit extends that mission beyond the pages of the journal, creating a space where researchers, educators, practitioners, and leaders can come together to translate research into meaningful educational practice. By fostering dialogue across research and practice, the Summit seeks to examine how emerging knowledge about trauma can inform educational practice, leadership, policy, and institutional change while strengthening the developing field of trauma studies in education.

Summit Outcomes

Through participation in the TIES Summit, attendees will have opportunities to:

   2. Engage in substantive dialogue with scholars and practitioners from different disciplines, roles, institutions, and national contexts.

   3. Examine emerging research, practices, frameworks, and approaches within trauma studies in education.

   4. Interrogate the complexities, limitations, and tensions involved in understanding and responding to trauma within educational systems.

   5. Build relationships and identify opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and continued field development.
