Practice professional communication to accompany the development of a robust professional toolkit.
Reading email messages from your instructor each week is an expectation in BUS 2001.
If you email your BUS 2001 instructor with a question, you will typically receive a response within 1-2 business days. You will not receive email messages from your BUS 2001 instructor over the weekend. Plan your work accordingly.
Professional email etiquette is an expectation in BUS 2001. Use the professional email guide below to compose emails to the instructor.
Subject Line: Include a concise and specific subject line
Dear/Good morning/Good afternoon Mr./Mrs./Ms./Miss/Professor Last Name,
Tell your instructor what you have done to seek out the answer for the question you are about to ask. For example, “I have looked through the syllabus/website and our email correspondence, but I can’t seem to find…” If you don’t have a question but need to relay a message, acknowledge that you understand any relevant course policy found in the syllabus or any upcoming assignment due dates in this first paragraph.
In the second part of your email, include your request for clarification. Concisely write about your specific question regarding an assignment, quiz, or other topic for which you are requesting clarification. If asking about an assignment, include the item number(s) you are asking about. Again, be specific.
Include a line of gratitude for understanding or help. A simple thank you goes a long way.
Email closing,
First Name Last Name
BUS 2001 - Section Number
P.S. Reread your email and double check that your tone is courteous, professional, and appreciative.
