Over the years, App State's mascot has undergone several changes, yet he has remained a steadfast image of the mountaineer spirit through all of his iterations. Starting from a drawing the "Rhododendron" yearbook, through losing and regaining his pipe, to the fierce black and yellow profile we see today, Yosef has been an unmistakable Appalachian fixture. Yet, with the how many of us ask: where does the imagery of Yosef come from?
Any student at App State understands that there are too many people and not enough housing in Boone. The Office of the Provost continues to admit more students to increase the amount of funding the university receives from the UNC System. While the university receives more money from higher enrollment the Town of Boone is not large enough to support a growing population.
