The Office of University Sustainability is the best place at Appalachian State to learn about sustainable initiatives on campus. The office is active on social media as well, so be sure to follow "sustainAppalachian" on Instagram; @sustainapp on Twitter; and "sustainAppalachian" on Facebook for up-to-date information about events and ways to get involved.
Zero Waste is a campus-wide effort to reduce what goes into the landfill through purchasing decisions, recycling, and composting efforts. Look for the black (landfill), blue (recycling), and green (compost) bins on campus and do your part to help Appalachian achieve Zero Waste goals. Be sure to look for the Zero Waste zones at Mountaineer football games!
Any students or Appalachian family members who have food or goods needs are invited to visit the food hub. The main location is in the Office of Sustainability and offers non-perishable staples as well as fresh bread and seasonal, local fruits and vegetables, as available. The Free Store is a place where you can come shop for clothes, school supplies, and things for your room or apartment, and donate gently used items as well.
A partnership between the Office of Sustainability and University Housing, Green Appal is a program where students voluntarily participate to show their commitment to sustainability in their residence hall rooms.
