Hi, I'm Anderson Payne. I am a graduate student at Appalachian State University, focusing on ecology and evolution.
In Dr. Adams' lab, I study biochar and compost as soil amendments and their effects on the soil food web. What fascinated me about both amendments is how many aspects of the soil food web each affects, such as soil nutrients, increased bacterial and fungal activity, and plant growth, to name a few. I hope my research on soil food will help us identify any unforeseen effects these amendments may have.
Other things I love doing outside of the lab are teaching fellow students about biology. And when I’m not in the lab or teaching, I enjoy hiking and exploring new areas.
If you would like to discuss gardening, soil food webs, or biochar, please don't hesitate to reach out.
