The 6-12 ELA Common Core State Standards were prioritized by PPS teachers using a method outlined by Larry Ainsworth in his book Rigorous Curriculum Design. Standards that are identified as priority need to be taught and assessed to mastery by the end of the grade level. Standards that are not prioritized are classified as support standards and still need to be taught, but there isn't the same level of emphasis on students mastering them.
