Oregon Kindergarten Assessment

2019-2020 Portland Public Schools

An online resource for PPS staff administering the OKA

What is the OKA?

The Oregon Kindergarten Assessment is a state-wide assessment and required by Oregon law. It is administered to all incoming Kindergartners. The assessment is designed to take a snapshot of what incoming Kindergartners know prior to Kindergarten instruction.

The assessment is composed of the following three measures: Early Literacy, Early Math, and The Approaches to Learning. The Early Literacy and Early Math are direct, paper pencil assessments. The Approaches to Learning (A2L) is a teacher observation form.

The first segment, Early Literacy and Math MUST be administered within the first three weeks of school. The A2L is to be completed after the 3rd week and before the 6th week of school.

The OKA testing window is 6 weeks.

The testing window for the OKA closes end of day on October 8th.

All Materials are due back NO LATER than Monday, October 14th.
