One of the hot topics today is genetically modified organisms (or GMOs). Some see the ability to genetically manipulate an organism to produce its own pesticide, grow in different climates, or cure diseases as a benefit to humanity, while others are concerned about the effects of manipulating nature. Many scientists are discussing GMOs and whether they fit into today's classification system. Some feel that if nature did not create the organism, then it should not be put in the modern classification system. The feeling is that anything genetically modified should be identified separately.
