As a department we believe our extra-curricular provision is second to none. We pride ourselves on the amount of time given to the pupils and on the breath and standard of pupils' achievement at all levels. All staff within the department are committed to this process because we believe it’s' value cannot be overstated. Whether pupils participate for competition, for fun, for fitness, or use the activities as a pastime, we believe our present programme offers pupils, the opportunity to contribute to the ethos of the school and gives them genuine links to clubs and the community for a sustainable healthy lifestyle.
Competitive Sporting activities at St James' include football, netball, rugby, Gaelic Football, athletics, cross-country, basketball, badminton, rounders and a significant sports leadership programme.

Year 12 Community Sports Leader (CSL2)
As part of the new Sixth form enrichment the department has reintroduced the Community Sports Leader (CSL2) award.
This award is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful learners to lead safe, purposeful and enjoyable sport/physical activity, under indirect supervision.
We feel this award will allow our young adults to become active members of the wider community whilst developing some useful, transferable skills.

What Young Leadership Opportunities are there for our students at St James
•There are many Student Leadership activities that have taken place around the school in most subject areas over the last 2 years

•The ‘menu’ of activities in all subjects has something for everyone and we aim to encourage participation during and after school in Young Leadership activities

•Our aim is for every subject to include Leaders in running and organising either lunchtime or extra curricular activity, preferably once a week
