Emergent Literacy Series (Birth-Age 5)

Emergent literacy is a process that begins at birth and continues to the end of preschool.  In this 3 part series, participants will explore the components of emergent literacy: phonological awareness, print awareness, and oral language and vocabulary.  Participants will also learn instructional strategies for developing these components of early literacy.

LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling)

LETRS is professional learning that provides educators and administrators with deep knowledge to be literacy and language experts in the science of reading. Developed by renowned literacy experts Dr. Louisa Moats, Dr. Carol Tolman, and Dr. Lucy Hart Paulson, it is a flexible literacy professional learning solution for educators and administrators. LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the fundamentals of reading instruction—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and language.

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum: Preschool

The Heggerty Phonemic Awareness curriculum components include 8 phonemic awareness skills and 2 early literacy skills.  The daily lessons teach basic and more complex skills including rhyming and onset fluency, isolating final and medial sounds, blending and segmenting words, syllables and phonemes, adding and deleting words, syllables and phones and substituting phonemes.  This training will allow teachers to gain an in-depth understanding of the 8 phonemic awareness skills, observe a model lesson, and engage in guided practice.

Sit Together and Read (STAR) and STAR at Home

STAR is a set of interactive and innovative read-aloud practices designed for educators and caregivers. STAR utilizes intentional read-aloud practices and mindful scaffolding strategies to encourage and strengthen young children’s knowledge and awareness of print. The STAR programs have adopted the name STAR Read-Aloud Practices following years of research that have demonstrated shared book reading as an effective means for advancing emergent literacy skills.

Acadience Professional Learning

Acadience offers educators comprehensive training on how to effectively use Acadience assessments, interpret the results, and inform decision-making to improve student and system outcomes.

Our Regional Literacy Support Team can support training in the following:

ParaReading

ParaReading ensures that paraprofessionals, or other adults supporting students, are qualified to implement structured reading programs and to assist teachers with the instruction of students who are at-risk in reading and spelling.

Access to the General Education Curriculum for ALL Learners

The general education curriculum often consists of courses, lessons, and planned learning activities that are intentionally taught. But, what about the informal and unspoken messages and strategies that are communicated and used in the classroom? These are not part of the formal curriculum, but contribute to student growth, engagement, inclusion, and more.

This FREE, 10-part video series from our partners at OCALI explores strategies grounded in research that are designed to ensure ALL learners have access to the general curriculum.
