Will the preschool follow the school calendar?
Yes, the preschool will operate according to the South Windsor Public School calendar. We will welcome children on Wednesday, August 27. It is important you consult your school calendar for early dismissals, school vacations/holidays, and professional development days.
What hours will the preschool operate on the SWHS early release Mondays and the elementary schools' early release Wednesdays?
The Learning Center will continue to operate on its usual hours (8:45 - 3:20) on early release days.
Is transportation available?
No. For the 2025 – 2026 school year, families are responsible for providing transportation to and from the preschool. Drop off begins at 8:45, and pick up starts at 3:20.
Is before or after-care available?
No. Staffing limitations prevent us from offering before or after-care hours.
Are meals provided?
Parents are responsible for providing lunch and a snack each day.
What creative activities will be offered?
Preschool children will enjoy a variety of learning activities, including art, music, literacy, and exercise. In addition to art exploration, singing, making music, and exploring books and reading, children will have access to an enclosed playground and a gymnasium for cold weather fun.
What is the student-to-staff ratio?
Our student-to-staff ratio is 7.5 to 1. Preschool enrollment is limited to 15 children, and the preschool will be staffed by a certified Early Childhood Education teacher and by a paraeducator. In addition, the preschool serves as a learning lab for high school students enrolled in Early Childhood Education classes that are taught by a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. Each preschool child will be paired with one or more high school students who provide mentoring and support.
Is the preschool able to support students with special needs?
No. The district’s Preschool Outreach Program (POP) at Pleasant Valley Elementary School is dedicated to educating preschool children with special education needs. Children requiring specialized services and programs should be enrolled in POP.
