Note: When you look at these lists, you'll see that a handful of words are printed in bold. Those that are printed in bold do have a sound pattern that can be learned (ex: y saying 'i' or 'e' when at the end of a word; ow saying "ow!" like, ouch; ay reminding us of the Fonz; "when two vowels go a-walking, the first one always does the talking," etc. However, early on in first grade, those patterns are typically not yet known, so we include these words with the genuine sight words.
