In order to facilitate the social/emotional, academic, and career development of students, we will be going into all classrooms to teach classroom lessons on various topics. This year, students will receive class lessons on Kelso's Choices, which is a curriculum that teaches students how to solve small problems. Grades 3-5 will also receive Second Step Bullying Prevention lessons which help our school be a safe and respectful place. Additional class lessons will be taught based on classroom and school need.
Small group lessons teach skills and provide support for students with similar needs. These groups are offered throughout the school year and focus on various topics such as friendship, self-regulation, anxiety, family transitions, and more.
Some students may benefit from meeting individually with their school counselor to ensure they are socially, emotionally, and academically successful. A school counselor offers brief, solution-focused counseling such as skill building, coping skill practice, conflict resolution, and brief check-ins. If your student needs more long-term, focused support, we will collaborate with family members in order to get the student outside support.
In order to support our students' social, emotional, and academic growth, we might also collaborate with other school staff, family members, administrators, and outside providers.
