If students are going home in a different way than usual, they must have a note from a parent. If you have forgotten a note, you need to call the office and alert them of the change. They will make sure I get the message. If a student tells me that they are going home in a different way without a note, I put forth my best effort to communicate with families and confirm the change. If the student tells me this as the bell rings, I will be sending them home their usual way. If you email or message me, I may not see it before dismissal, so please, send a note or call the office.

Bolded dates affect only our classroom or our grade level.

I have a no-treat policy in my room for birthdays. I do love to celebrate kids and their birthdays but instead of treats or prizes, the birthday kiddo gets to make a Birthday Choice!

Choices include:

• Choice Time (Games, Legos, Art)
• Art Lesson
• Extra Recess
• Birthday Kiddo Teaches a Lesson
• Other ideas welcome! (Pending teacher approval)

Regarding birthday party invitations: I will not pass out invitations in class unless each child in the class is invited. The PTA is compiling a school directory which will be a great resource. In addition, I will compile a class contact list, as well.

Seeing their important adults involved in their school and classroom is a great experience for students. I like to give families as many opportunities for being involved as possible! As such, I have a modified open-door policy. Please give me notice that you would like to come in and I would love to have you!

Please fill out this form whether you'd like to volunteer daily, once a year, just from home, or anything in between! Grandparents who would like to volunteer may also fill out the form.

The district supplies curriculum for Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Emotional Learning. Additional resources are used for supplementation (Writing, Reading, Math, Math, Social Comprehension, and Social Studies - Country reports, map reading skills, WA state history).

• Homework will come in Friday folders. It will be due the following Friday.
• I would like you to aim for 4 nights per week of 30 minutes of homework. If this is not feasible for your family, please let me know. Research shows that students should NOT complete more than 10 minutes of homework a night per grade level. Research also shows that homework does not necessarily build skills, so I understand this perspective as well.
• Homework will be part of the Friday News/Planner. Find a good spot in your home to keep this each week. It will continue to have important dates and info but will also be where your child tracks their homework.
• My goals with homework are to encourage children to grow their skills, encourage long term organization habits, and prioritize student choice.
• To promote executive functioning and organization, the Friday Homework planner will include a section of what they need and that they should make a plan for their homework time.
• They will choose how to spend their 30 minutes of homework time, make sure they have materials needed in a quiet area, and have a timer for keeping track.
• Homework Options:
  • Paper Math Homework: I will send this home on Fridays, a review of what we have learned the week prior.
  • Reading: Must be a text in book form or e-reader (reading Video Game on screen instructions does not count)
  • i-Ready: There are learning modules tailored to meet the instructional needs of each individual student based on their initial assessment results.
  • Writer's Notebook: The writer's notebook is for any ideas that spark their interest!
  • Other. Do you both agree that a project that is interesting them can count towards Homework minutes? Great! Write a short description.
• Students may choose one - three activities each day to meet their Homework minutes.
