We had a busy week learning routines, getting to know each other, and enjoying our first week of 2nd grade. What an amazing group of young scholars! This is going to be an amazing year! Next week, the 2nd grade will be getting our Chromebooks and beginning our i-Ready diagnostic assessments. We will start on our Math Diagnostic on Thursday. Please be sure to have your scholar bring their Chromebooks back to school each day. Our curriculum Night is scheduled for September 23. Exact times are still to be determined.
We discussed the Cheetah way quite a bit this week, as we have learned about our new classroom and our routines. As we continue to work on the Cheetah Way, we set our first goal of reaching 100 Cheetah Spots! Cheetah spots are given to students who are showing great behavior. We are well on our way to our first 100 with over 47 Cheetah Spots this week! The Cheetah Way--being respectful, responsible, and safe--is really at the heart of everything students do at Frank Love.
We have been taking the time to greet each other in languages represented in our classroom, on our campus, and in our community each morning, switching languages each day. This week, we greeted each other using Chinese, Hindi, and Spanish. We've really enjoyed hearing the students help share how to pronounce languages they know, and attempt languages they do not.
If you have not yet, please fill out our Family Questionnaire using this link: https://forms.gle/E1KfqZV5nSbNhkJ56. This quick survey allows you to share about your child and family, as well as provide interests in volunteering or sharing in class. I would love to learn more about your young scholar! I am currently working to schedule parent volunteers as we are finalizing our classroom schedule and routines. Thank you for your patience as I work to schedule classroom helpers.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you or your scholar is interested in coming in to share about a cultural tradition your family practices, please let me know, and we will work to schedule a time.
If you would like to donate to our snack reserve, please send in single-serving healthy snacks to share with the class or choose an item from our Amazon Wish List. Some ideas for snacks include pretzels, goldfish, granola bars, or fruit snacks.

Students will be getting their Chromebooks on Monday, September 8. These devices are intended to be brought to and from school each day. We will start the year with QR codes to help students sign in as we learn to use these devices. We will set passwords later in the year, typically in November or December. Below are a few tips and reminders for our Chromebooks.
Device Protection Program:
The Device Protection Plan program covers the device(Chromebook, MacBook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or loss of the device. $25 or free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals. Learn more about the program on our website. https://www.nsd.org/our-district/departments/technology/student-technologies
We have a few more technology tips listed below:
Be sure to charge Chromebooks at home. A single charge should keep the Chromebook good for a few days. We do not have many outlets in class and can charge here when needed, but it really helps when the Chromebooks come in charged
Chromebooks should be restarted every week. This helps to keep Chromebooks up to date with the latest updates and to clear cookies so the Chromebook runs better
If you ever have issues logging into a program and are asked for a password, the easiest workaround is to log out of the Chromebook, then log back in with the Clever badge. Students have not yet set their passwords. I will share student passwords with you when we set them, which is typically in November
We have typically done book orders about once a month during the school year, alternating each month between paper order forms and just using the online platform. I will be sending home a book order later this month. Until then, you can access Scholastic Book Clubs online. You can access this shop using this link: https://shop.scholastic.com/parent-ecommerce/clubs.html, and be sure to enter our class code: W66ML.
Dear Families,
Today is Meet and Greet! I am so excited to begin the year with our amazing 2nd-grade scholars. This will be my third year at Frank Love Elementary, my seventh year in Northshore, and my 27th year in education. I live in Kenmore with my family—our son Hudson is starting his junior year at UW, and our two daughters live in Austin and Boise. My wife and I love to travel, spend time with family, and enjoy the lake whenever possible.

While I am waiting to hear about the beginning of the school year, I wanted to make sure families are given an opportunity to share important information! Please click the link below to access a Google form to share some information about your family, and specifically your child. There are about 15 questions. Thank you for taking the time to complete this! If you don't have time now, don't worry. I'll be sharing this questionnaire again once school starts.
