In German, there are three extra vowels: ä, ü and ö. This high tech video shows you their different sounds. "Unter" means "under," "über" means "over." "Apfel" means apple, "Äpfel" means apples (plural). "Oben" means up, "Oft" means "often," "öfter," means "more often." "ß" is called "s-zet" and it makes a short, sharp "s" sound, like two letter "s" combined.
