Warm up those fingers and brains! We'll be doing coding activities in all library classes the week of December 6. Younger students will be using iPads and older students will use Chromebooks to solve coding problems.
The Soda Float Challenge was launched this week for our 4th and 5th graders. Students are challenged to read at least 7 of the 19 books on the list. This effort to broaden students' reading choices culminates in a soda float party for those who accept and meet the challenge! K-2 students have been enjoying Animal Architects by Amy Cherrix. We are looking forward to a virtual visit with the author on October 19, courtesy Third Place Books! The book introduces 11 creatures that create ingenious structures for dwelling, protection, and catching prey! Bright illustrations by Chris Sasaki complete the picture.
September 15 - October 15 is a special celebration of Hispanic and Latinx Culture and Heritage! With the younger students at our school, we have been reading Federico and the Wolf, a twist on the traditional Red Riding Hood story, with lots of Spanish language and culture woven in. It is also a Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award nominee for 2022. In Destiny Discover, I have added a carousel of reading suggestions for this month. 9/20/21

I'm Ginny Allemann (Ms. Ginny), your new Arrowhead librarian. I'm thrilled to be here! I look forward to sharing a reading journey with you through your years at Arrowhead.
Let's talk about what YOU like to read!
I've been a librarian in Seattle and Northshore for over 20 years. My favorite thing about being a librarian is connecting my patrons (both teachers and students) to resources (digital and print) and just right books for their needs and wants!
When not reading or working in the library, I enjoy skiing, hiking and backpacking, crossword puzzles, and being with my family and friends.
