Sooke Heartwood was created by a group of families committed to a connection-centred, compassion-driven approach to learning and living.
The Sooke Heartwood program is a multi-age learning community with a focus on community building, inclusion, and outdoor education.
We meet twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM to 2:30PM.
Our intended weekly rhythm for 2025-2026 includes:
Tuesday morning for teacher-facilitated programming in smaller groups
Tuesday afternoon for teacher-supported, mixed-age choice of activities
Thursday morning for art-focused and place-based
Thursday afternoon for teacher-coordinated, community-led, mixed-age interest-based clubs
The Sooke Heartwood program is passion-based and created in partnership with family-and-caregiver-input. The first caregiver meeting for 2025-2026 will be in September. See the calendar; details will be emailed to enrolled families.
If you have suggestions for program planning, field trips, guest educators, or learning themes, pleaes contact our Clubs Coordinator, Nicole, or share your ideas at the next caregiver community meeting.

Métis Elder & Cultural Educator
Canadian author and historian L.J. Barkwell said that historically, Métis Elders referred to as Ahneegay-kaashigakick: "the ones who know.’”
Jo-Ina is a Metis role model and a captivating storyteller. She shares age/grade specific presentations that incorporate cultural handcrafts, history, language, and dance. Her passion and personality mix the gamut of honour, humour, knowledge, and reclamation.
Singer, Songwriter, Multi-instrumentalist
With formal training in both Canada and abroad, Julia is a skilled musical educator of singing and songwriting as well as violin, guitar, ukulele, piano, and music theory. She easily adapts to her students' style and teaches according to their interest while covering the fundamentals with a playful approach. Julia is adored by children for her playful spirit and down to earth nature. She fosters in them a joy for music and an eagerness to learn more.
Beatboxer & Sound Technician
OraViBe shares the art and history of beatboxing in an energetic, fun, and inclusive way. His participatory workshops will engage both young kids who want to have fun and make noise, and enough technical content to satisfy professional musicians. People respond with curiosity and awe to beatboxing and quickly catch the groove that puts you in touch with the spontaneous spirit of music.
