The Teacher Academy program at Lebanon High School, a partnership with the Warren County Career Center, is like no other program offered at Lebanon High School! The purpose of this program is to foster an interest in the teaching profession and assist students in developing a “teacher identity” as they understand and practice the craft of teaching. We believe in the motto "Teach, Love, Inspire" and encourage our students to do just that!
About Teacher Academy...
Teacher Academy is a junior and senior class designed for the student who enjoys working with children, and the teaching and learning process. Teacher Academy will allow you to explore the world of teaching and help determine if going into the field of education is right for you. Students will begin to understand the expectations of a classroom teacher, and prepare for professional career options within the teaching profession. TA is a unique classroom where learning is fun and engaging.
Juniors
Juniors will focus on child development, the history behind schooling, the diverse needs of learners, the school environment, and the daily requirements of a teacher at all levels of public education. Students will develop age-appropriate learning experiences and curriculum to engage children and help them learn, and will apply developmentally appropriate techniques to advance learners’ social and emotional growth.
Seniors
Seniors will focus on experiences though the Teacher Academy Mentorship Program in various classrooms including elementary, middle school, high school, special education, and other fields of education. The fundamental project for this class is a completed Portfolio covering such topics as learner exceptionalities, culture and poverty, changing demographics, and the formation of their own personal educational philosophy. This career pathway is designed to support the students post-secondary options in education.
Senior Year Internships...
When our students hit their senior year, they have the option of interning at all Lebanon City Schools, including Bowman Primary, Donovan Elementary, Berry Intermediate, and Lebanon Junior High School, as well as LHS. TA seniors can get the experience of student teaching, observing other teachers, developing instructional strategies, and many more life skills. Internships and time in the classroom with professional mentors help students determine if teaching is the profession for them.
Competitions/Field Trips...
TA students have the opportunity to compete with other teaching programs across the state and country at the Educators Rising conferences. Trips to cities such as Columbus for state, Boston, Phoenix, Orlando, Dallas, and Washington DC for nationals! Participate in several field trips to area colleges such as the University of Cincinnati, Miami, and Xavier, and benefit from a range of classroom speakers.
