ATTENDANCE
Studies have shown that attendance at school is directly related to student success. Parents, students and schools need to work together to promote attendance and success. To achieve positive results and foster good communication, phone calls will be made to parents and written notice will be sent to parents for chronic absenteeism and excessive tardiness. In cases of habitually truant students, a referral may be made to the Office of Children Services.
Parents are encouraged to take an active role in student attendance and to alert the school when their child is to be absent. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements to keep up with schoolwork when he or she is absent from school.
The principal shall have the final authority and discretion on matters related to such discipline for truancy.
All work that a student misses will be waiting at school. Students will have the same amount of days they missed to make up the work. For example: if a student was gone for 5 days, they will have that same amount of time to turn in the work. We do a lot in class, but please communicate with me, as make up work will vary depending on the student.
While on vacation, please make sure your child reads everyday, practice math facts, and if possible...stay connected! Completing iReady lessons while absent will be a great tool for keeping a student progressing along their personal learning path. Unfortunately, art and other hands on projects your child misses may not be available for them to do.
I believe that homework is a great tool for building student responsibility and forming healthy study habits!! Homework is also a really great way to keep families in the loop on what we are up to in class and how your student is progressing academically. Homework will NOT begin until at least September. Please be on the look out for updates on that to come.
Homework will be sent home on Monday's and will be expected to be turned in on Friday's. Homework will be review work that students have shown mastery of in the classroom and is meant to be a practice and refresh assignment. I also reward the work and responsibility weekly. These rewards typically are popsicles/ice cream or another class preferred reward.
COMMUNICATION
Communication and trust between you as parents/guardians and myself, as their teacher, will be crucial this year to your students second grade successes! Please do not forget that I am on your team and wish nothing but success for your child! Please email me or message me on Parent Square with questions and/or concerns!
I understand that sometimes you may have questions or important needs to communicate with me outside of regular school hours. Please understand that I will do my best to respond in a timely manner, but sometimes I may not be able to get back to you immediately. I appreciate your understanding and grace with me, as I have a lot of school responsibilities, as well as be a wife and mother of small children.
I will be at school and available between 8:45 am and 4:15 pm, Monday through Friday (unless there is no school).
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to follow school and classroom rules in a safe and respectful manner. Students are also expected to follow the direction of any staff member within the school. I expect kind and respectful interactions between both students and adults within the classroom. Students should work cooperatively, follow directions, and exercise self control in both independent and whole group situations.
CONSEQUENCES
Consequences can vary on the level of severity and frequency.
Consequences could begin with but not limited to:
Student warning and conversation about choices made. Possible note home to parent.
Student meeting and phone call home together with teacher.
Student sent to see the principal and phone call home.
