Audio Tools

Overview

Our voice is one of the most powerful tools we possess, but many times we default to writing instead of talking. There are definitely times when writing is the way to go, but there are other situations when spoken words can have a dramatic impact.

Audio is a powerful tool in the classroom. It can be used by teachers and students. The My Simple Story video contains information about the benefits of incorporating audio tools into your teaching and learning.

Audio Tools

Vocaroo Tutorial

Vocaroo - this is the simplest of all of the recording tools. To record you simply go to Vocaroo.com, hit the recording button, and start talking. When you're done speaking you can download the recording as an MP3 or share it online by distributing the link assigned to your recording or by embedding it into a blog or website. Vocaroo major limitation is the lack of an option to edit your recording.

Twisted Wave Tutorial

2. Twisted Wave - Through this tool you can create and edit spoken audio recordings from scratch. Your completed tracks can be exported to Google Drive and SoundCloud. If you have existing audio tracks in your SoundCloud or Google Drive account you can also import it into TwistedWave to edit those audio tracks.

Audacity Tutorial

3. Audacity - Audacity is a free, open-source program for recording and editing audio. It's available for Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. For classroom podcasting projects or other classroom audio recording projects, it is hard to beat Audacity. The only trouble is that it can feel a bit overwhelming the first time that you open it up on your desktop. Fortunately, Mike Russell host a playlist of Audacity Tutorials for Beginners.

Audio Apps

Mic Note is a free Chrome app that allows you to create voice recordings, text notes, and image-based notes on one concise notebook page. The notes that you record with your voice can be time-stamped by clicking on your Mic Note note page while you're recording. You can also take notes without recording any audio. All notes support inclusion of images and links. The best part of Mic Note is that you can sync all of your notes to your Google Drive or Dropbox account

Talk and Comment is a Chrome extension that allows users to provide voice comments. This is a great way to provide feedback students.
