Teaching is an art; one whose form changes with the modality. Here are a few great opportunities to learn more about teaching online courses.
This self-paced course will introduce you to the beauties of using Canvas in online, hybrid, and face-to-face classes. These simple, hands-on lessons give you the chance to master Canvas in your own practice course to build a home page, content page, discussion, and quiz, while also exploring how to use Canvas communication tools.
The power of an online course comes from careful planning and intentional design. Blending the concepts of backward design with universal design with hands-on practice, you'll gain mastery in the skills needed to purposefully design an engaging, high-quality online course that captures--and keeps--your students' attention. You'll leave with a robust plan and the solid foundation of your newly envisioned course.
Whether you're building your first online course or revising an existing one, this 12-week series will show you how to create the course you've always dreamed of teaching. You'll explore online learning theory, approaches to online course design, and strategies for supporting student success from within the structure of the four sections of the Online Education Initiative's Course Design Rubric
The FLC Online Teaching Institute (OTI) Crash Course helps to prepare instructors for teaching online through exploration and hands-on demonstrations of effective practices in online instruction. The OTI is a four week course where participants explore the characteristics of successful online instructors and the foundations for teaching with technology.
Through the program, participants will delve into the important issues for both instructors and students using online tools including course design, communication and maintaining regular and effective contact, web accessibility, and assessments.
Participants will be introduced to different presentation applications, media, and tools for online communication as they create a blueprint for modules that demonstrate exemplary online course design. The OTI is taught within Canvas affording opportunities for participants to learn and use the different tools and functions for future classes; however, this is not a Canvas training class.
