Interaction is the heart of connecting with students! There are lots of opportunities to interact with me and each other in our course activities. The only communication outside of our course is pre-course email; if you haven't read our welcome letter yet, now's the perfect time.
Students will use Google Apps, Canvas and other online tools to complete assignments, and research for assignments. Computers are great, but there are times when they fail us! I highly recommend that you keep all copies of your work and anything else you upload or email in the event of a computer crash. Please note, there is a wealth of computer labs on campus and community libraries that should supplement any inability to utilize your home system.
Make sure to read your Folsom Lake College Academic Integrity and Responsibility - Plagiarism and Cheating Policy
The instructor would like to add: Students are not allowed to reuse assignments from other courses, this is called self-plagiarism.
Don’t rob yourself by plagiarizing! I reserve the right to give a failing grade on any assignment and/or class if found to be plagiarized or self-plagiarized. I reserve the right to notify the proper college officials and complete any required paperwork. Borrowing someone else’s words/work without proper citation is illegal and will not be tolerated!
If you have a verified need for academic accommodation or materials in alternate media (i.e.: Braille, large print, electronic text, etc.) per the Americans with Disabilities Act or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, please contact your instructor as soon as possible.

It is always important to know the drop policies for every class you are enrolled in. This helps set the guidelines prior to the start of the class as to the level of attendance that is expected from each student. Throughout the semester, I will review your participation and assignments. Make sure you don’t miss more than one “Hidden Gem” discussion board question or you may be dropped from the class. Students may be dropped from any class when their absences exceed six percent (6%) of the total hours of class time. It’s your responsibility to notify me if you have any challenges as soon as possible. It is also your responsibility to drop the course if you feel you can no longer participate and complete the course.
Make sure to view the academic calendar and deadlines for important dates!
Disagreements over grades should be brought to my attention within a week of receiving the grade. Disagreements over grades should be done using the Canvas email system.
You are expected to demonstrate ethical behavior at all times. Do not use words that are sexist, racist, degrading or inflammatory. All writings must fulfill the specific purpose of the assignment. All students must show consideration and respect for one another at all times. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in having you removed from the class and/or referred to the proper campus officials. Make sure you read the Student Code of Conduct, Discipline Process, and Grievance Policy found in the Folsom Lake College Catalog.
Please remember this is an adult class and topics of an adult nature will be discussed.
