This painting portrays the sun washed innocence of a dewy skinned child watering a patch of perfect sweet peas. He also started using color in such a way as to impart the illusion of inner light.

"Big Horn"

Artist: Gary Pruner - 1982

Location:

Medium: Oil on canvas

This oil painting was from Gary's early wildlife series. While the other paintings in the series displayed Gary's trademark bright color palette, Big Horn was painted in a toned manner. While it has semi-monochromatic feel, there's actually an abundance of subtle, carefully chosen colors. Gary chose this particular color method to create the spiritual element of a majestic beast becoming one with its surroundings.

"Gift for Gary Pruner"

Ann Bachtold conceived the idea of a gestalt portrait of Gary as a retirement gift. She asked the Art Department for help and we all did our part. Students, former students, staff and faculty. The only criteria was that each finished rectangle match the finished area in size, line, texture, and value ( the light to dark qualities). Gary passed last August. His wife Donna gifted to the Permanent Art Collection, so that Gary would always be remembered.
