Last week we mentioned that these Originals are short, flexible, and full of visuals. We know these videos have been created by the Edpuzzle staff and are aligned to standards. Being able to find and use these videos directly on Edpuzzle can save you time when you are looking for content that is aligned to your curriculum.

HOW TO GET STARTED

• Sign in to Edpuzzle

• Click on the ‘Discover’ Tab on the left hand side

• Select a Module to help narrow down the video options

• Select a topic to narrow down your Edpuzzle Originals even more (if there are Spanish versions of the Edpuzzle Originals for your filters, you’ll notice those listed first!)

• As always, be sure to pre-watch any videos before assigning them to students!

WHAT IT IS

Edpuzzle Originals are a library of high-quality, premade video lessons intended to lighten the content creation load for teachers! They are short, flexible, and full of visuals. They also include premade questions, so all you have to do is assign the video to your class! Currently, Edpuzzle Originals are available for math, ELA, science, social studies, financial literacy, and more! Videos are available for elementary, middle, and high school.

WHY WE THINK YOU’LL LIKE IT

When using a new edtech tool, it can be tough to know where to begin. We love the originals because it gives you an entry point into using Edpuzzle, allowing you (and students!) to get used to using the tool before investing more heavily into content creation. Using the Originals is a great “foot in the door!”

HOW TO GET STARTED

• Click “I’m a teacher” and Sign in with Google.

Edpuzzle has hundreds of premade videos ready to share with students. These videos have questions embedded in them already, and space for you to add your own questions. These videos enable students to check for understanding, as well as move at their own pace.

This tool help you get off that blank page. This could be a great way to generate some generic report card comments that you can use multiple times as you are entering student grades. Or if you’re stuck on how to say something, this tool can help give some suggestions!

💡Pro tip: If you don’t like the first suggestion, make a suggestion in the box that pops up underneath the comment, such as “Make it Shorter”. You can also click on the “Actions” button and try one of their suggestions!

The Text Rewriter tool uses AI to simplify and make passages more accessible. It can generate high-level content in easier language for multilingual learners, students with IEPs, etc. It also has bonus features like text shortening, lengthening, generating comprehension questions, translation (in beta), and summarizing in bullet points.

• Under the Magic Tools (left hand menu), find the “Text Rewriter.” Don’t worry–we’ll feature plenty of other tools on this site in upcoming tips!

• Copy/paste your passage into the prompt box

• Use the “Rewrite so that” field to enter some context/instructions for the AI. Away you go!

• Want some tips on how to prompt the AI to write something more EL-friendly? See below for some tips:

  • Simplify sentence structure: Ask the AI to rephrase complex sentences into simpler ones. Encourage the use of shorter sentences with clear subject-verb-object structures.

  • Use common vocabulary: Request the AI to replace complex or technical terms with simpler, more commonly used words. This helps multilingual learners understand the text more easily.
