MCP RESOURCES

The Columbia Heights school district is proud to partner with the Modern Classroom Project. As of Spring of 2023, we have trained over 40 educators through the Modern Classroom Project (MCP) model!

What is the Modern Classrooms Project (MCP)?

The Modern Classrooms Project model has three core pillars: blended instruction through video, self-paced structure to foster flexibility, and proficiency-based grading. Here in CHPS, this model is primarily "showing up" through the first two pillars.

Our MCP teachers often leverage a playlist approach to integrate these pillars into their instruction. By packaging the learning process in a playlist that students work through at their own pace, teachers are freed up to work more frequently with individual students. By capturing instruction into video, teachers are able to step away from the whiteboard to support varied individual needs, and students are able to watch (and re-watch!) the videos from anywhere, at any time.

MCP has partnered with Edutopia to produce a very helpful overview video (shown below) that gives insight into their origins and key components of the model. Also included below is a video from MCP that explains how this model helps meet the needs of every student.

What are CHPS teachers saying about the Modern Classroom Project and it's training course?

"I'm able to reach more students than I was able to with traditional instruction. I have a much better idea of where students are at during a unit. Even with the heavy workload at the beginning of a unit, I'm significantly less exhausted from using MCP as compared to traditional instruction."

"MCP has made what otherwise could have been an incredibly out of hand year, into something that is manageable."

"Differentiation is an actual thing that I can do in the classroom and not a buzzword to hope for."

"MCP is the future of sustainable teaching."
