School Messenger @HPEDSB
What is SafeArrival?
SafeArrival is affiliated with SchoolMessenger, a system used by HPEDSB to send messages to families by email, SMS text and telephone. Guardians can report an absence in advance, 24/7, using their choice of a mobile app, the SafeArrival website, or an interactive toll-free phone number. Future absences can be reported any time.
How do I sign up?
To sign up for the SafeArrival app or website reporting, guardians must use the primary email address associated with their student's records at their school. Families unsure of which email is their student's primary email, or who wish to change the primary email, are requested to contact their school office. No email address is required for absence reporting through the toll-free phone number.
How does it work?
If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, they system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact (the number you provided to the school) by email, SMS text and telephone to confirm the absence. If the system is unable to reach the designated contacts, the school office staff will call to follow up.
Backpack, Backpack
We have a variety of brand new backpacks at the school. If your child is in need of a new one, please let either your child's teacher or office staff know and we will send one home.

Public Health Reminders
If you are sick, stay home if possible.
Wash your hands often and clean high touch surfaces regularly.
Cover your mouth with your arm or elbow when you cough or sneeze.
Reminders...
Nut free school
We are a nut free school. Please refrain from sending any products to school that contain, or may contain, nuts or peanuts in order to help protect those with severe allergies.
No Cell Phones
There will be no access to cell phones for students during the school day. Students that bring cell phones will store them safely in phone hotels until the end of the day. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 are not permitted to bring cell phones to school.
Morning Food and Drink
Students are not permitted to have food or drink on the yard during recesses. This includes arrival time from 9am to 9:15am.
No Early Pick-Ups
Pick up times vary by class - check with your child's teacher. We are not able to accommodate early pick-ups. Students are not to be picked up between 3 pm and their usual pick up time.
Preparing for Emergencies
Prince of Wales has successfully completed 3 fire drills. We will also be conducting a lock down practice this fall.
Please Call
Prince of Wales is prioritizing the safety and well-being of all students. Please call so we can help and be beside you in this work. Bring important things to our attention and collaborate with us. We care deeply about the children and families at Prince of Wales.
Remember Regular Head Checks
Head lice are tiny insects that can live and breed in your hair, close to your scalp. Nits are lice eggs often attached at the base of hair. Go to this website for tips on what to look for, how to check for nits and lice, and how to treat head lice.
Indoor Recess Upon Arrival
On indoor recess days, students go directly into their cohort door (the door they use to enter and exit the school for recesses) upon arrival. Supervising educators will welcome students into the school between 9 and 9:15.
Arrive Between 9 am and 9:15 am
Organize mornings by creating a schedule of tasks and backing up the alarm so that every task fits. Children love the predictability of routines. Arriving on time ensures that your child lands softly, participates in important classroom routines , and readily engages in learning.
Extra Clothes
Please check that your child's extra clothes are appropriate now that the cooler weather is upon us.
Primary students should have an extra set of clothes stored in their backpack or in the classroom. Accidents, spills and puddles can happen.
