Wear Orange on Friday

Any orange shirt will do.  Let's make our school a sea of orange to recognize the legacy of residential schools, honour residential school survivors, and demonstrate our commitment to reconciliation.  If you have purchased an orange shirt this year, please expect them to come home on Thursday, September 29.

Student Information Forms Due

Student Information Forms were sent home in backpacks on Tuesday, September 6.  Please make any changes to your contact information, check off permissions and return it to the school.   Give us a call if you'd like another copy.  It's important that we can always reach you, so give us a call anytime throughout the school year if there are further changes.  Please notify the school if your child has any medical concerns or allergies.   Thank you!

Inclement Weather and Late Arrivals

Students go directly into their cohort door (the door they use to enter and exit the school for recesses) when our arrival time is indoors due to inclement weather.   Supervising educators will welcome students into the school between 9 and 9:15.  Students arriving late (after 9:15) also use their cohort door but they must visit Mrs Blair at the office window first.

Save the Date

Come together to celebrate community and belonging on September 29 from 4-6 pm at Prince of Wales.  Our Open House is an opportunity for us to meet YOU!  Come in and tell us about your hopes and dreams, and what you want to see happen at Prince of Wales this school year.   Classrooms and learning spaces will be open for tours. Connect with us in conversation and enjoy hot dogs around the barbeque.   It's been a long while and we can't wait to see you!

PA Day this Monday

No school on Monday, September 26.

Cell Phones at POW

A Culture of Belonging, Equity and Safety

These are our priorities at Prince of Wales and will continue to be as we enter a new school year.

To address some concerns that greatly impacted this culture, and the safety and wellness of our students and families last year, there will be no access to cell phones for students during the school day.  Students are able to bring cell phones but they will be stored safely until the end of the day.

Please ensure your child knows that phones may not be stored in backpacks, pockets, desks or lockers.  If they come to school, they will reside in the phone hotel in each grade 4 - 8 classroom until the end of the school day.

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 are not permitted to bring cell phones to school.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Friday, September 16 is Mismatch Day at Prince of Wales!  Wear different patterns and socks, odd colours and styles, or any kind of unusual combination!

Orange Shirts $15

Go to School Cash Online to order an orange shirt for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.  On Orange Shirt Day students will wear any orange shirt to commemorate, honour and uphold the survivors of residential schools, the children who did not return home, and intergenerational trauma that has impacted Indigenous people.  These shirts are $15, locally sourced, and will support the First Nations Caring Society.  The design will include a turtle like the image shown here and are offered in a range of sizes from Youth Small (Size 5-6) to Adult XXL.   Orders are due soon - by  Monday, September 12.

In Relationship

A culture of trust and of kindness... We are reaching out to our community to ask them to advocate for Prince of Wales and our mission to treat people with kindness, ask for help when you need it and to know we are in relationship with our families, our community partners and with each other.  We are asking for your support and grace at every turn and when the journey gets bumpy.  We are committed deeply to each of our students and the learning ahead in 2022 / 2023.  Please call us to have conversations and build solutions with us.  Your perspective is greatly welcome. We believe in the work, your children and in our relationships with each family.
