The students will participate in a variety of assignments both in and out of class. Some of these will be collected and some will just be discussed in class. Of the items being collected, not all may go into the gradebook. I do like to look at the work so I can make a note of each student’s progress. Items that have gone into the gradebook will have a fraction written on the paper (20/20 or 8/10 for example). The denominator shows what the assignment was worth and the numerator shows what the student has earned. All of the student's work will be graded using a point system like this. Please keep in mind, work that is turned in on Google Classroom, is graded there and then put into PowerSchool. Work completed in the workbook is graded in the workbook. It stays in the classroom until the end of the unit. Students may take it home (it is their responsibility, they only receive one).
Remember you can check your student’s grades online using PowerSchool.
Please be aware that students are able to correct any work that is returned to them and turn it back in for full credit.
Homework will be an extension of what is being learned and read in class. It will likely be to read chapters from the novels studied in class or to continue practicing the skills learned in class to further reinforce them.
**I do not assign homework often.
Students who return to school with a valid written excuse may make up work missed and receive full credit. The maximum time allowed for make-up work when absence is due to illness is twice the length of the absence. It is the student's responsibility to ask for make-up work.
If the student knows that he or she will be absent from school during a certain time period, the student is expected to contact his or her teachers to make arrangements for making up work.
Please look at the workbook, Google Classroom, PowerSchool, and see me for missed assignments.
I encourage students to turn work in up until the end of the quarter with no penalty. However, work turned in on time is shown to earn a better grade. A grade of a zero (0) is entered in Powerschool for late and missing work until the assignment is turned in.
