Authors: Esther, Aditya and Payton

We interviewed Dr. Dahlquist about our Pride Day Leadership Assemblies. Below are the questions we asked her.

What is the purpose of Leadership Assembly?

It builds school community and helps us focus on the 7 habits. Also it provides opportunities for students to be leaders and it’s FUN!

Why do we have bobcat representatives?

It’s important to be good leaders and it helps us celebrate a positive leadership in behavior and responsibility.

How long have we had the 7 habits?

6 years

What is the most important part of a leadership assembly?

Communicating with others and helps us have common goals.

What caused the school to choose the 7 habits for our school theme?

We were looking for something to unite us and it’s a school wide effort.

Leadership Assembly

Assemblies are a great place to get together. Here is an update from our last PRIDE Day assembly.

Julia, Anna, and Sahana were brave 4th graders that talked about synergizing. We saw a video of Julia doing an Irish dance. Then Julia showed us a move in Irish dance. Great job, Julia!

We had a W.I.G. update. The W.I.G is very important this 2019-2020. We need to be cleaner. In our cafeteria we have been working on being more tidy. We are making progress. We not have student leaders in place to help ensure our success.

Focus on a Habit : Synergize

Synergize

By: Mimi, Mackenzie, and Fiona

Synergizing is one of our 7 Habits. It's one of the most widely used habits at Creek Valley. Synergize means working together without fighting. It is not productive to fight, especially with friends. So it is important to work together and collaborate for a positive outcome.

WIG Update

We have WILDLY IMPORTANT GOALS as a school and as individuals. Each year we work to set goals and make a plan to reach those goals. We track our progress and reflect on our plan.

We are always working to better our safe, respectful, and responsible actions in the lunchroom. "Clean the floor and raise your score!"

As for personal goals - WOW, CV students. You're on the right track! WAY TO GO!

Habits and our Learning Targets

Some CV students helped organize an ALL school project during their math class this year. During their unit on area and perimeter, they extended their problem solving, applying their skills to create what you see pictured to the right. They started with the total number of CV students, and created space for each individual student to write one word they wanted to be known for. They had to measure, cut, and define the space inside (area) of each letter in order for all to have a place to be a part of our community.

Go Out and Make A Difference

The Sandwich Man

By: Signe and Lorrie

The Sandwich Man (Mr. Allen Law) goes to churches, businesses, community centers and schools to make sandwiches for those who need it. They make bologna and cheese sandwiches. At night, he goes to his apartment not to sleep because it is filled with sandwiches and four big refrigerators. He picks up all of the sandwiches in his van which he calls“Love one Another” and drives around the streets of Minneapolis to give out sandwiches to those experiencing homelessness.

What made him decide to do this? Before, he was a teacher for twenty years and after school he took some kids who don't get meals very often to McDonald's to buy them a burger for 99c. Back then burgers didn’t cost very much. After he retired he knew he wanted to do something to help people. So he did. As a grade level (4th Grade) we made about 1,500 sandwiches. Mr. Law is doing a very generous thing but he gets about two hours of sleep in his van each night. The Sandwich Man is making a very BIG difference in Minnesota!
