No problem! PWER's focus is to teach riders the skills they need to be safe and to have fun. We welcome riders of all abilities and experience levels.
Yes! Home schooled and private school students living within the ISD 833 school district are welcome join PWER.
We host a bike clinic every June to check out the bikes of our riders. If repairs are needed, you'll be referred to our sponsor bike shop to help you out. Before every practice riders and coaches perform a limited bike check to look for any obvious issues. If your bike is not the right size or in safe condition, coaches will let you know.
We have a bike loaner program. Numbers are limited so let us know right away if you want to borrow a bike for the season. Email info@pwermtb.org or talk to a coach right away.
Our coaches go through extensive training before each season including skills training, CPR, first aid, and coaching training. There is one coach to every 6 riders or two to every 8 riders. Riders are taught how to ride safely and how to watch out for team-mates.
Since PWER is a composite team, can my rider earn a school letter?
If your rider meets the lettering qualifications in the handbook, they can earn a letter.
Racing is only required for students who want to earn a high school letter, though we encourage all riders to try it at least once.
We offer a scholarship program to help offset the cost of registration. Contact us at info@pwermtb.org to learn more.
Each rider needs to bring to every practice:
Helmet
Bike (loaner bikes are available!)
Shoes
Jersey or breathable shirt (not cotton)
Bike shorts (preferred) or appropriate substitute
Strongly Recommended:
Gloves and Eye protection
Food and water
Bike tool
Tire Lever
Hand Pump
Spare Tube
Race days are fun events for team members and families. Expect a festival-like atmosphere with tents, food trucks, and an abundance of riders. Families and friends are encouraged to come and spend the day with the team! Middle school races are on Saturdays and high school races on Sundays. Families are asked to volunteer one race shift per season. Details are found in the handbook.
