These ensembles consist mostly of 7th and 8th graders. Shall a 6th grader be able keep up with the pace and maturity, they will be allowed at the band directors discretion. Students not meeting the expectations of the ensemble may dismissed and forfeit their spot and opportunity to perform. These ensembles are the most exposed groups to the public and are expected perform at the highest level. ***Fees may be required***
Pep Band
This ensemble performs at 2-3 boys and 2-3 girls basketball games, pep rallies, and more! The ensemble starts in October/November and will be "on-call" through the end of boys basketball season. We will rehearse 1-2 times after school prior to the first event and then be expected to practice in between games on their own.
Jazz Band
This ensemble will begin in January and meet 1-2 days a week after school 4:15pm-5:30pm and is AUDITIONED BASED ENSEMBLE. Students are expected to practice on their own and keep up with their concert band classes as well. Members of the Jazz Band will learn different styles of music including jazz, pop, rock, funk, etc. Performance opportunities potentially include North Carolina Jazz MPA, City of the Arts Jazz Festival in Winston-Salem, Jazz Gala Fundraiser, and more! Traditional instrumentation includes, 4-5 trumpets, 4-5 trombones, 2 alto sax, 2 tenor sax, 1 bari sax, bass guitar, piano, drumset, vibraphone, 1-2 other percussionist. If we are unable to fill the ensemble to the expectation needed, then we may not have an ensemble during the given year.Â
6th Grade Percussion Ensemble
This ensemble will begin as soon as students are assigned to percussion (November/December) and is REQUIRED of all 6th Graders. The goal of this ensemble is to catch them up on both drums and mallets for band class. Performance opportunities include Cabarrus County Schools Night of Percussion, Solo and Ensemble, NC Day of Percussion, and more! This ensemble will meet once a week after school 4:15-5:30PM. Day is TBD.
7th-8th Grade Percussion Ensemble
For this year and potentially this year only, this ensemble is open to any student that interested in learning percussion on the side and those who are actual percussionist. Students who are not percussionist must be doing well in band class on their instrument in order to be allowed to participate. This ensemble will begin in November/December. The goal of this ensemble is develop the skills of current percussionist and allow those who are exceeding at their current instrument the opportunity to learn this instrument. Performance opportunities include Cabarrus County Schools Night of Percussion, Solo and Ensemble, NC Day of Percussion, and more! This ensemble will meet from 7:30-8:30AM once a week. Day is TBD.
