Journalism Class Meets Breaking News Reporter
On Wednesday, November 20th, the 8th grade Journalism class had a guest speaker. Robert Sullivan with the Salisbury Post and Clemmons Courier spent time sharing about his profession as a breaking news and county government reporter. Mr. Sullivan is a graduate of Appalachian State University and has been a journalist for three years and loves his job. His schedule is quite interesting because sometimes he is gathering information all hours of the night, like when he was covering late night car accidents or fires.
Mr. Sullivan enjoys informing people and is a very curious person. He enjoys annoying people and bothering people to get the information to tell people what is going on around their community. Mr. Sullivan grew up around a newspaper because his mom was an English teacher that always posted newspaper articles in her classroom. He sees the newspaper as a community service and wishes all newspaper subscriptions would be free to the public but that is impossible because the hard copies of a local newspaper are costly to print.
Mr. Sullivan told the journalism students how he gets a ton of phone calls and he shared that often people just walk into the newspaper office because they want their story told.
U.S Government Reopening
By Chris Cruzalta
Recently the government shutdown has finally come to an end. Even after ending it is still affecting people in the U.S including, low income families that use food stamps or get money from the government. Disability checks were put to a halt and air line security (TSA) were not being paid. People were stranded in airports because many flights got canceled. This was the longest government shut down lasting 43 days. Finally the Democrats and the Republicans came to an agreement .Let's hope this does not happen again.
Beast Park
By Chris Cruzalta
On November 13 Beastland was open. This theme park, located in Saudi Arabi, was made by a YouTuber named MrBeast (Jimmy Donalson). It is open from November 13 to December 27 of this year. The theme parks rides and games are inspired by his videos and challenges. There are different ticket price tier lists that let you play more of his games and rides. In my opinion I would love to go. Would you?
