Robotics
A team event, with around 8 people, where the goal is to build a robot that can move, stack, and sort objects all autonomously on a custom-made environment (board), which is also made by the team. Technology
The Technology competition is an Online Only Competition to encourage students to use technology to create a video/movie that adheres to the interpretation of the prompt which demonstrates innovation, and creativity, as well as communicates the concept of the prompt. Onsite: Drawing and Painting
An individual event where students will bring their materials and make some sort of visual art using them within the time limit of 2 hours. Students may choose to compete in either Division I or II. Visual Arts
Students will create an original and creative piece of art that will be completed before the convention and submitted to Mrs. Alyward or Mrs. Lloyd directly. Show choir
A group of 12 individuals or more sing with accompanied choreography at the State Convention. The top five performances perform at the General Session and qualify for Nationals. Premiere Performances (solo, duo, trio)

Spelling Bee
One student takes a test before going to the States, and the top 8 scorers advance to oral rounds. In oral rounds, you are given words to spell onsite at the competition. Speech
This event consists of two students (one in 9th-10th grade, and the other in 11th-12th) who will be giving a speech of no less than two minutes and cannot exceed three minutes on a topic of their own choice (Topics of well-known awareness or about beta are popular winners.) You cannot use electronic devices to read your speech but note cards and printed scripts are permitted and you must dress in business attire. Academic Testing

Poetry
Participants will have 60 minutes to write an original poem which will be graded on several different aspects such as tone, mood, voice, focus, etc. The top 5 are awarded and proceed to nationals. Creative Writing
Participants will have 90 minutes to write a 200-500 word story based on the prompt they are given at the start of the 90 minutes. Club Trading Pin
Participants will create a design for a pin representing our school along with the Beta event that is presented. These pins will be traded among other pins from other pins at the convention. Living Literature
Students recreate a scene from a novel or literary works using props, costumes, and a background of the scene. This recreated scene cannot be larger that 12 feet high, 12 feet wide, and 12 feet deep. Students will stand as wax figures for an hour as judges pass by your depicted scene and judge your novel's scene. Book Battle
Teams of three students will read a variety of books assigned by then National BETA Club, and complete a multiple choice test with a 30 minute time limit. The test will be recorded, so if there is a tie, the team to submit the test first wins the competition. Please note that there is NO assistance from adults during the testing session. Musicology
Teams of four participants will first take a 30 minute multiple choice test on general knowledge about the generalities of music, along with a written test as well. The top 8 teams will compete in the oral rounds at the Convention, where teams will compete in question-and-answer based section. Awards will be given at the General Session. Quiz Bowl
A team of 4 will compete in an online and oral competition that require quick recall on general knowledge. As you proceed through the questions they advance in difficulty. Prior to the competition your team of 4 will take the online test as a team, the top 16 rounds will advance to the oral round. The oral round held at competition will be two teams (with a designated team captain) competing in single elimination rounds. Each round is 10 questions or 30mins, whichever comes first. Accessorized Design
An accessorized design not limited to hats, ties, handbags, socks, belts, etc. This design must coordinate with the beta convention theme of that year. The design may be computer-assisted but must have marketing potential. 2D Design
A free-flowing flag must be created to coordinate with the beta convention theme for that year. The design may be no larger than 24" Wx 36" L and must be presented on a standard T stand. 3D Design
Contestants must create a no larger than 24x24x24 design that depicts the beta convention theme. Scrapbook
The club will create a storybook, journal, album, etc. that depicts a year (state convention to state convention) of service. The scrapbook must contain the school name, city, and state. Things to include should be membership, sponsors, activities, service, and much more. The book may not be motorized or electronic. Apparel Design
An apparel design not limited to shirts, pants, jackets, etc. (Disclaimer: may not be an accessory) This design must coordinate with the beta convention theme of that year. Service Learning Showcase
The club will create a 36¨x 48¨ free-standing trifold board showcasing the club's service from that year. No trim, lights, etc. may exceed the trifold parameters with the exception of a header/ banner at the top of the board. Electricity will not be provided. Engineering
Teams of 3-5 will have 2 hours to build an invention that displays the spirit of Rube Goldberg. With the invention consisting of five steps, teams must build their creation with preapproved items. The invention must be built on a 24x48 piece of plywood. No assembling may be done before the competition. Teams are allowed to touch their machine once for activation purposes after completion. Digital Portfolio
The club will prepare a virtual presentation that showcases the club experience for that year. (state convention to state convention) The portfolio may be presented on items such as a computer, iPad, QR Code, etc. However, internet connection and electricity will not be provided. The only requirement for this project is that the school name, city, and state are on the project. Marketing and Communications
A team of 3-5 students will choose between two prompts (Develop a campaign to promote National Beta to a school within your state that does not offer it as a club. Incorporate the four pillars of Character, Leadership, Service, and Achievement into the campaign; or develop a campaign to promote an event held annually in your community that needs a fresh look/overhaul to appeal to a younger audience.) The presentation can be presented on things like iPads, computers, handouts, posterboards, etc. However, the presentation may not exceed 2mins and as a reminder, no electricity or internet connections will be provided. Onsite Cake Decorating
One student from our club will be given a time limit of one hour to decorate up to 3 dummy cakes that are no larger that 9 inch rounds. Please note that you must bring all of the necessary materials with you to this event as none will be provided. Please also keep in mind that fondant or stencils are not permitted, and your cake design/s should demonstrate the theme of Beta (radiate) with three specific elements relating to the theme.
