Show Choir Guidelines
Mission Statement
The Antwerp High School Show Choir is a select group of students who represent the school positively through performances. High standards are placed on these students to achieve musical skills, musicality, performance skills, stage presence, and group cohesiveness.
1. Respect for Mrs. Smith and assistant directors/choreographers.
2. Behavior that shows respect and courtesy for each member of the group.
3. Attitudes that enhance the image of show choir and the Antwerp school system.
4. Appropriate behavior is expected at all times
5. All students are expected to follow all rules as stated in the Antwerp High School handbook.
6. Students receiving more than one “F” or “I” and not passing five units of credit will be declared ineligible to participate in show choir and result in removal from the group.
7. Good attendance to school.
1. BE ON TIME to all rehearsals and performances
2. NO TALKING when any director or student leader is talking.
3. POSITIVE ATTITUDE is required-Complaints and bad attitudes can destroy a group—Problems should come to Mrs. Smith immediately. Problems will be confronted immediately.
Failure to follow these goals and expectations will result in removal from practice or performance. Two occurrences will result in removal from the group.
Every rehearsal is important to all show choir members and attendance is required at each rehearsal.
An excused absence will be granted for show choir members who are excused from school due to illness
An excused absence will be granted for college visitations if Mrs. Smith is notified in writing at least two days prior to the rehearsal.
No excused absences will be given for work!
Every rehearsal is important and no rehearsal should be missed without good reason.
1 unexcused absence will result in “sitting out” one song of a performance. Two unexcused absences will result in “sitting out” an entire concert. Three unexcused absences will result in removal from the group. Removal will occur after the 3rd absence. No money will be refunded for show choir outfits.
Anyone arriving to rehearsal after 7:05 a.m. will be considered late. Being late 3 times will result in 1 unexcused absence.
Students are required to perform at all concerts. Work will not be excused as all known dates have been given. Failure to attend a concert will result in removal from the group.
Show choir outfits are required for each performance unless otherwise instructed. Show choir outfits are your responsibility. Please do not leave them in the choir room for the year. Shirts and dresses will need to be cleaned frequently. Any lost clothing items will need to be reordered and paid from the student’s funds.
All show choir outfits are to be paid on the due date given. Any financial difficulties must be worked out with Mrs. Smith at least two weeks prior to the due date. Failure to pay for outfit on time will result in payment with interest and possible removal from the group.
Mrs. Smith and coach will discuss and decide on a compromise
Many students admire the students in show choir and it is important that each show choir member is a positive influence on other students as well as other community members.
Any social media used to damage the character of another individual, the school district or school personnel will NOT be tolerated and result in removal from show choir. If inappropriate social media is encountered, please screen shot the incident and bring it to the attention of a teacher or a school administrator.
