In addition to community service hours and a group service project, NJHS members must create their own service project to benefit their community.

Raise money for a charity such as the Red Cross
Send cards/care packages to soldiers
Organize an event for Memorial Day or Veteran's Day
Organize a Student Kindness week
Collect unused makeup and perfume to donate to a center for abused women
Collect stuffed animals to donate to children in hospitals
Have a Knit-A-Thon to knit or crochet baby blankets to be donated to hospitals or homeless shelters
Organize a Special Olympics event for children and teenagers
Organize an Easter egg hunt for neighborhood children
Collect used sports equipment to donate to families and after-school programs
Organize a reading hour for children at a local school or library
Organize a bingo night for nursing home residents
Organize a family day for residents of a retirement home and relatives to play games together
Raise money to provide a bulletproof vest for a police dog
Start a butterfly garden in your community
Collect old eyeglasses to donate to an organization that collects that and distributes them to people in need
Collect items for a homeless shelter
Organize a winter clothes drive to collect coats, hats, scarves, and gloves to be donated
Organize an event in your community associated with the National Day of Service in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
Organize a clean-up or planting event for Earth Day
