School Counseling Programs

Concrete Primary School follows the South Carolina Guidance and Counseling Program and the American School Counselor Association National Model.

Our Comprehensive School Counseling Program will include:

Classroom Guidance Lessons:

Students will be taught Classroom Guidance lessons throughout the school year. Each lesson is based on the American School Counselor National Models Counseling Program Curriculum Standards. Which focus on students Academic, Career, and Social Development.

Academic Development: Students will be LEARNING TO LEARN. They will learn how to achieve educational success, identify and work towards goals, manage information, organize time, and locate resources that are essential to this process.

Career Development: Students will be LEARNING TO WORK. They will be able to develop the knowledge and skills to make realistic career plans, make a successful transition from school to work, achieve interdependence.

Personal/Social Development: Students will be LEARNING TO LIVE. They will understand and respect themselves and others, relate positively to others, make informed and safe decisions, cope effectively with chance, and become responsible citizens.

Short-Term Individual Counseling:

Students can be referred to counseling services by parents, teachers, administration, or through a self referral process. School Counselors can not provide long term or continued on going counseling. However, I can provide a referral list for parents wishing to access counseling services within the community.

Small Group Counseling:

As a part of the Comprehensive School Counseling program at Palmetto Elementary students are invited to participate in small group counseling sessions. These will consist of small groups of children who share a common concern, they meet together with the counselor to share and talk. Most students are recommended by their teacher, but they can also be recommended through a self referral, administration, or a parent. Small groups will meet during the school day for between 6-8 weeks and address a variety of topics.
