Check out the information below to learn more about the upcoming A+ Charter Schools Mentor Program.
Any A+ Charter Schools teacher that has at least 3 years of classroom teacher experience and has a recommendation from their campus administrator can apply to become a mentor for the 2023-2024 school year.
Mentors work with early career teachers to give guidance and support in lesson planning, instructional strategies, classroom management, organizational tips, and overall district/campus procedures.
Mentors receive a paid day of Mentor training during the summer and are provided with monthly checklists to guide meetings with mentees. Optional virtual and/or in-person mentor meetings will be available throughout the year to share experiences and receive feedback and support.
Mentors working with 1-2 mentee teachers receive a mentor stipend of $250/semester with successful completion and submission of required documentation.
Mentors working with 3-4 mentee teachers receive a mentor stipend of $375/semester with successful completion and submission of required documentation.
Mentors will receive 1-day of specialized training during the week of July 24th presented by the TLL Department. This training will include all the necessary information on mentor responsibilities and expectations, monthly checklists, and processes for submitting documentation for stipends.
Additional optional training opportunities will also be available throughout the school year.
Mentor applications open on May 1st, 2023 and close on June 1st.
The mentor selection process will occur over the summer and all selected mentors will be notified via email in late June or early July.
Mentors will be notified of their mentee(s) in early August prior to the start of school. It is possible that additional mentees may be assigned if they are late hires.
Mentor stipends are distributed at the end of each semester with the completion and submission of required documentation.
Research shows that mentor programs increase student performance, teacher effectiveness, and teacher retention.
Being a mentor will help increase your professional leadership skills as well as help to positively increase T-TESS evaluation scores.
Mentors meet with mentees at least once a month to go through a district provided checklist of topics. Mentors should also be available to meet with mentees as needed to address questions, check-in, or provide assistance.
Most mentors will work with 1-2 mentees, with 4 mentees being the maximum number assigned to a mentor.
Mentor applications will open on May 1st and be available on this website as well as in the Educator Update Newsletter.
